Edgbaston, Pakistani cricket team defeated South Africa in the league match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 under DL method. Pakistan defeated South Africa by 19 runs. Pakistan and South Africa played their second match at Edgbaston cricket ground on 07 June and South Africa played first after winning the toss and South Africa made 219 runs and gave the target of 220 runs to Pakistan to make in 50 overs.
South African team started its inning and it faced problems in the start of the inning. Hashim Amla and De Kock started the innings. Amla scored only 16 runs and he became the victim of Imad Waseem. De Kock also scored 36 runs but Muhammad Hafeez bowled him out. The captain of SA, AB De Villiers was got out on the very first ball of his inning. Faf Du Plessis and David Miller made the partnership of 29 runs but Du Plessis got out for 26 runs on the ball of Hassan Ali. JP Duminy also failed to make big score and he was bowled out for 8 runs. With the consistent falling of the wickets, the problems were becoming grave for SA. Only David Millar scored 75 runs and he helped his team to take the total of the team to 219 runs in 50 overs. Chris Morris and Rabada made 28 and 26 runs respectively. Hassan Ali took 3 wickets while Junaid Khan and Imad Waseem took two wickets each and Muhammad Hafeez took one wicket in just 10 overs.
When Pakistan started its inning, Azhar Ali and Fakhar Zaman started the Pakistani innings. Azhar Ali was bowled out by Morkel on 09 runs. Fakhar Zaman scored 31 runs and Babar Azam remained not out on 31 runs. Muhammad Hafeez scored 26 runs and he became target of Morkel. Shoaib Malik remained not out on 16 runs. Morne Morkel took all three wickets. When Pakistani total score reached to 119 runs for 3 out, the rain started and the match was abandoned to play. The management declared victory of Pakistani cricket team by D/L method. Now Pakistan has two precious points and its hopes are still alive to reach to the semi final.
